St Peters : Background

St. Peter's CoE High School, founded in 1964, provides a denominational education for boys and girls in the 11-16 age range. The school is a popular school with most of its pupils coming from the city of Stoke-on-Trent with some attending from Newcastle-under-Lyme. Pupils of all abilities attend in approximately equal numbers of boys and girls and the overall level of attainment on entry to the school is generally average. Pupils are drawn from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds.

Paul Swann came to the school as Head of the D&T Department and has made significant changes in the way the department operates. Paul was one of the teachers on the very early Marconi Days training and has been developing electronics and control in innovative and imaginative ways since joining the school in 1997. In key stage 4 the D&T department regularly achieves over 80% A*-C in their Electronic Products GCSE course.

The department has its own room of about 20 networked computers. A wide variety of software is available to the pupils in the department and this greatly enhances the work that can be done. The department is a leading department in the school and is very well supported by the senior management team.
